On July 24, 2026, the Section 122 tariffs imposed by the US government on the majority of the world will reach their statutory 150-day limit and end.
The tariffs were implemented in February of 2026 and were originally devised as a stopgap effort following the striking down of the former International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs. The tariffs represented a 10-15% global import surcharge.
For many importers, this may seem like a brief respite, but while the Section 122 tariffs are ending, many Trade Act Sections are already being implemented; these include an uptick in Section 232 investigations, the already implemented Section 301 tariffs, and the newly imposed Section 338 tariffs, with more being expected in the coming weeks.
