On June 3, 2026, the Canadian Government announced that it will be extending its steel tariff-rate quota regime for imports from non-Canada/US/Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) partners. It is also extending the existing horizontal tariff relief for eligible steel and aluminum products from the US and eligible steel products subject to derivative tariffs. The extension of these measures is still pending approval of the Governor in Council
The measures would be extended to June 27, 2027, and June 30, 2027, respectively.
The current quota levels are based on 20% of 2024 volumes for partners that do not have a free trade agreement with Canada and 75% for those who do. Imports that exceed that quota are still subject to a 50% tariff.
CUSMA partners are exempt from these tariff rate quotas.
